The Green Welly Stop

On your holidays in bonnie Scotland and travelling from the east side of the country to the west side? There’s a reasonable chance you may pass The Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum during your journey. If you do, why not take a little stop for a break, it’s quite the stopping place, petrol, food, gift shop, and most importantly a great little whisky shop at the back of the store. They have a couple of their own branded whiskies… Let’s take a quick look at them…

june10-gws5clThe Green Welly Finest Blended Scotch Whisky – 40%

Colour: Gold.
Nose: Full, floral, malty and sweet, speysidey.
Palate: Soft, a little buttery, tiny touch of spice. Again, quite speysidey.
Finish: Short to medium, sweet, fruity, slight grassiness.
Thoughts: Nice balanced blend, perfectly capable, makes a fine little pressie for a family member or friend.
Available: Green Welly Stop – £2.75 (5cl mini)

Aug12-TyndrumGoldSTDTyndrum Gold – 15yo Speyside – 40%

Colour: Slightly full gold.
Nose: Sweet, vanilla fudge mixed with autumn fruits and smoky hints.
Palate: Velvety and smooth, the age, low abv and chill filtering making this really easy on your palate, enjoyably easy, marvellous stuff as an excellent session whisky. Fruity sweet.
Finish: Fairly long, fruity, whiffs of smoke and nice oak.
Thoughts: I rather like this, I’d love to know what it is!
Available: Green Welly Stop – £34.99 (also available as 5cl mini)

Overall Thoughts: If you’re passing the Green Welly then be sure to pick up a few of these for yourself! The blend is a great one to give as a gift, whilst maybe keeping the Speyside as a treat for yourself.

Don’t forget that the Green Welly has an excellent online shop, well worth checking their site regularly and ordering from them… you’re supporting a smaller independant retailer which is always a good thing, but you often find their pricing is very keen, so don’t discount them!

Thanks to Green Welly for the samples.
