A Rare New Breed of Douglas Laing’s
Scallywag Speyside Malt
Douglas Laing & Co today announces the release of Limited Edition Scallywag #2, a Cask Strength Speyside Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, boldly bottled at 54.1%.
Scallywag Speyside Malt first launched in 2013, in homage to the Douglas Laing family’s long line of Wire Fox Terriers, and is now sold in over 40 markets worldwide.
The new Limited Edition release is created using only the finest Speyside Malts, including those distilled at Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes Distilleries. Just 4800 bottles of this rare breed are available globally, a number that is proudly displayed on the product’s gift tube. The striking, gold foiled packaging features a somewhat startled Scallywag, his ears perked and his monocle blasted off, having just experienced his first taste of the spicy, fruity, chocolatey dram.
Douglas Laing’s Managing Director (and proud owner of his own Fox Terrier, Cooper) Fred Laing comments:
“Recently awarded “Brand Innovators of the Year 2016” at the World Whiskies Awards, we at Douglas Laing & Co continually strive to be leaders of the pack in creative packaging and seek to fill an even greater spirit into the bottle. I believe this latest all-Speyside Cask Strength canine creation doggedly embodies that philosophy by combining a very fun pack with a seriously good quality Whisky, not to be sniffed at. The vatting created for Scallywag Cask Strength #2 combines some really fructiferously-spiced Spanish Sherry Butts with specially selected vanilla driven bourbon hogsheads, and proves, though I may say so myself, that there’s life in the old dog yet!”
Scallywag Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky and Scallywag Cask Strength #2 are both offered with a complimentary, limited edition Father’s Day card at www.douglaslaing.com and selected specialist Whisky retailers globally for a limited time only.
Cask Strength Scallywag has a deep, dark colour – extracted from the many fine Spanish Sherry Butts selected. On the nose, it carries a rich, orange marmalade character, complemented by cinnamon and warm ginger. On the big, chewy palate, detect warmingly spiced apple and rhubarb crumble, with a distinct coffee note. Vanilla from our specially selected bourbon hogshead casks becomes apparent too, alongside a sweet raisin and fudge quality. The long and fruity finish displays dark chocolate and toasted oaks against a sweet and juicy backdrop.
