News & PR: Talisker launches new whisky, Talisker Skye

TALISKER™ LAUNCHES NEW WHISKY TO CELEBRATE
THE WILD BEAUTY OF ITS HOME, THE ISLE OF SKYE

TaliskerSkyeBottleTALISKER SKYE is the newest release from the distillery on the Isle of Skye. Crafted to reflect the rugged, wild beauty of the Isle of Skye, the new whisky pays homage to the island’s majestic landscape and coastline.

Capturing the essence of Skye in a bottle, the liquid has been made from a combination of hand selected toasted and refill American oak casks, carefully chosen by Talisker’s master blenders to accentuate the sweet, citrus notes of Talisker, whilst retaining the distillery’s unmistakable character. The result is a Talisker expression that opens with welcoming, smoky sweet notes, developing into deep maritime flavours and culminating in a powerful, spicy conclusion.

Stuart Harrington, Talisker’s distillery manager, comments: “We’re very proud to welcome Talisker Skye to our family of distinctive whiskies. We’re extremely passionate about both our whiskies and home, the Isle of Skye, and see this whisky as the perfect way of celebrating this. Our master blenders worked tirelessly to create an expression that embodies Skye’s wild beauty – and we’re delighted with the end product; it’s Skye in a bottle.”

Skye has been created to deliver an innovative, smoky sweet proposition to the range, whilst maintaining the essential spicy, maritime edge so integral to any Talisker.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Bright 18 carat gold with polished copper lights.

Nose: Starts gently with the glorious citrus sweetness of fresh oranges. Behind this, there’s a maritime air with fresh seaweed, dry driftwood and sea salt, backed by classic Talisker notes of comforting smoke. More spice yields a peppery and slightly earthy nose-feel. There’s also a sweet-sharp trace of toffee apple with some red berry fruit. Water tames the spice and smoke, but the aroma remains maritime.

Body: Medium. Softly textured.

Palate: Soft and sweet at first, coating and tongue tingling, with very light smoke. That sweetness quickly becomes more savoury (salted caramels, honey glazed ribs on a barbecue) with subtle smoke and a hot spiciness. After this, it’s gently chewy with some herbal notes. At reduced strength the taste remains salty, though less so, after a lightly sweet start.

Finish: Long and warming, yet also fresh, with a big, peppery finale and a late trace of sweet smoke.

‘Talisker, the only Single Malt whisky from the Isle of Skye. Like a warm welcome from a wild Hebridean sea’
