TWE Whisky Show: Bloggers’ Breakfast

Most serious whisky drinkers have been to, or at least know about the existence of whisky shows… there’s a good variety of them over the UK these days, but one of the largest, best known, and continually popular shows is The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show in London every year at the start of October. It’s always great to see friendly faces and to talk geeky things with industry experts while trying a massive variety of different goodies.

This year, for the first time, the new TWE ambassador – Billy Abbott – ran a Bloggers’ Breakfast (I say new in the loosest sense of the term, we’ve all known Billy for years).

A couple of themes ran through the morning breakfast, one was really just a way to meet other fellow whisky writers and say ‘hi’, to introduce ourselves to TWE, and for TWE to tell us about all the interesting things they have in store. All while drinking amazing drams, and eating doughnuts and Haribo. Does it get any better than that?!

Bloggers BreakfastWe tasted 3 different drams… I list them here without particular tasting notes I’m afraid, it was breakfast time after all…

  • Irish 1989 27yo The Whisky Agency exclusive to The Whisky Exchange (coming later this year)
  • Frapin 1993 Cognac exclusive to The Whisky Exchange
  • Strathisla 1977 40yo Gordon & MacPhail exclusive to The Whisky Exchange

All 3 were excellent; Irish, nice and light, Cognac, interestingly different and tasty, Strathisla, opulently old.

What do I take away from the above? The Irish was amazingly good, I could dram on that all day. More than that though, TWE have access to some excellent stocks and do a great job at picking tasty exclusives. Keep you eyes open for them hitting the shelves!

Thanks to Billy for putting up with us early on a Monday morning.
